Research and Pilot License
Research and pilot license are two of the most significant development systems in the game. This is because most of the ships and attachments are only available if the pilot has acquired certain pilot licenses or reached certain levels in related research. In short, pilot license unlocks ships and research unlocks attachments.
Pilot License
Pilot Licenses can be leveled up by passing the corresponding license tests. There are hundreds of different tests for different nations, ship types, and Tech levels.
To unlock a ship, the player needs to acquire the Lv.1 pilot license corresponding to the nation, ship type and Tech level of this ship. Leveling up this license can increase the bonuses on the ship and unlock extra device and component slots.
All the pilot license tests are designed so they are more challenging compared to other activities. Before starting a test, players should make use of the tips provided by Instructor Kaith in the test info panel.
At last, players won't actually lose their ships even if they got destroyed during a test. So free free to try out different strategies and configs.
Ship Research
Ship research is the prerequisite for pilot license tests of advanced ships. There are currently a total of 24 ship research routes one can take in the game, but normally one only need to level up the ship research routes of their own nations.
For each nation, the ship research routes are divided into frigates, destroyers, cruisers, battlecruisers, battleships and capital ships. Each type are further divided into T1, T2 and T3, corresponding to their tech tiers. When clicking on a specific Tech, the player can see exactly what ships this item unlocks the pilot license tests for.
Besides pilot license tests, ship research also provides a boost to superdevice recovery rate for a particular ship type of a specific nation. Superdevice is the ultimate device built in for each ship, having it off cooldown faster will bring enormous advantages in battle.
Attachment Research
Attachment research is similar to ship research in the sense that it's in charge of unlocking and empowering attachments the player can use. In a specific attachment research route, there are T1, T2 and T3 items, each consists of 5 levels, each level corresponding to an attachment rank. For example, when a player complete the research of an Lv.2 attachment research of T2, they will have access to Tier 2, Rank 2 attachment of the same type.
Attachment research are divided into 3 types: weapon, engineering and electronics.
Weapon research routes include all types of weapons and their upgrades. They generally provide cooldown reduction, boosts to damage, range and tracking speed, etc.
Engineering research routes include the core systems of ships like energy, shield and propulsion. They generally provide boosts to ship basic attributes and recharger efficiency.
Electronics research routes include both electronic devices for reinforcement and suppression. They generally provide boosts to efficiency of various electronic and interference devices.
Like ship research, a particular attachment can receive benefits from multiple attachment Techs. Players can see all the related Techs under the research tab of its Details panel.
Logistics Research
Logistics research include 2 areas: production and recruit. It doesn't provide direct boost to pilot's combat attributes, but does enhance corresponding production or recruit performances greatly.
Production research routes unlock Production for advanced ships and attachments, increase production rate and reduce production cost.
Recruit research routes provide no unlocks, but instead enhance wingman combat capabilities and dispatch quest efficiency.
Start Research
Before starting a particular Tech, the required pilot level and its prerequisites needs to be reached, and the pilot must have enough required minerals to spare.
Unlike skills, research generally takes some time to finish. But players can reduce this time by using assisting recruits with corresponding specialties or instant finish by using Iridiums.
Finally, one can cancel research anytime before it's completed. But only half the paid minerals will be refunded.
Conclusion
Research and pilot license are two of the most significant development systems in the game. In short, pilot license unlocks ships and research unlocks attachments.
To unlock a ship, the player needs to acquire the Lv.1 pilot license corresponding to the nation, ship type and Tech level of this ship. Leveling up this license can increase the bonuses on the ship and unlock extra device and component slots. The way to acquire pilot licenses is to pass the pilot license tests. They are relatively challenging, but players can make use of the tips provided before the tests.
Research provides certain benefits for each level, and it unlocks corresponding attachments. When clicking on a specific research item, one can see its benefits and unlocks. To start research, the required pilot level and its prerequisites needs to be reached, and certain minerals have to be paid. Research takes some time to finish, but the process can be accelerated or canceled.
